Doesn't have to be in L.A. of course.

For me, it's Khoury's in Long Beach. They have a lobster/seafood buffet on Saturdays that's off the hook, it even has prime rib. 40 bucks per head.

Anybody know of anymore nice seafood spots?

I haven't been there for a long time, but Ocean Avenue Seafood in Santa Monica has always come through with a damn fine meal. They have lobster taquitos that kick ass.

The best seafood is off the coast of Chile. Go to a fishing town and go to a restaurant where they are waiting for the food recently caught and brought off the boats. Sit down, order most anything off the menu, and you will know it is fresh. Nothing frozen, nothing packed, nothing transported across hundreds or thousands of miles. And you know exactly where it came from.

Is it healthy to get recent caught fishes from the sea and just make it? don't they have to keep the fishes frozen?

So freezing and storing it is safer?

Properly cooking a fish with high heat will kill anything that freezing will, even more so. Those things that it won't get rid of won't go away with freezing.

I'd much rather go for the fresh stuff straight from the fisherman's hook than frozen Gordon's fish sticks or Red Lobster.

If we are talking anywhere in the world, you need to go where the people - and I mean the local residents - get their daily nourishment in their front yard.

The best meals I have had in that regard have been on dive trips and fishing boats where the stuff is caught by the people who made it for you specifically for that meal - or by you yourself.

One of the best of those experiences was on this little island in Fiji that has a remote dive resort. The cooks go out and catch the dinner each day and do it local style. Everything from luscious sea bass to special prawns from the local streams and scallops from the reef.

And on fishing boats, it's always tasty to be eating a nice piece of sashimi 2 minutes after you hoisted a nice tuna over the rail.
