Yes, Zagat guide is definitely a reliable source.

My Zagat guide is "The Entertainment Book". Whatever seafood restaurant has the best coupon, is the best seafood restaurant.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned it yet. But for the largest variety of the freshest fish and seafood, the best place is:

McCormick and Schmick's

There are several locations in Southern California and throughout the U.S.

They have the fish and seafood flown in daily.

Rock'in Baja Lobster across the street.

Get the Golden Sombrero Bucket.

If I don't want to trek out to Newport, King's is pretty good for mid-priced seafood.

If you're into shrimp, Killer Shrimp in Marina del Ray is the place to go. Get the original Killer Shrimp Bowl, a hunk of bread, and peel and dip away.

never been a fan of McCormick's and Schmicks...they have a nice happy hour but their fish is not that great. I'm from Portland, where they originated and even their flagships (Jakes Famous Crawfish) is nothing to write home about.

You can't beat New England and the east coast IMO.

BUT, for good fresh seafood, go to Quality Seafood on the Redondo Pier...they have a lot of shellfish you don't even know what it is. Pretty dope.

or if you got $$$$, go to Water Grill or Providence.

Eating crawfish by the bucketloads in New Orleans is fun and tasty too.

I fancy Rock-n-Fish in Manhattan Beach. They get some good fresh fish and they know what to do with it.

Best fish I've ever had was at a small fish stand just off the coast of a small town in the Gulf of Thailand. They catch the fish the night before in the ocean with nets and the next day cook them up whole (They do not cut off the head). They use some crazy Thai hot sauce with jalapenos and other stuff. I think I paid $2 (80 baht) for a 2 pound fish. It just melted in my mouth. Got that every day for a month while I was there.

Second best fish I had was fishing off the coast of Maui. Caught some Ulua and Uhu and cooked them right up about 2 minutes after killing it on a grill right there on the beach. Can't get any fresher than that. Add that to some ice cold beer, white rice, ogo and tako poke and you're golden.

I had crawfish for the 1st time in 06 (in Vegas) and I wasn't impressed. Now, maybe it was Vegas, so I wanna try it in Nawlins to make damn sure.

The best fish I ever had was when I was on a beach in Chile and some shark or something was caught and brought up to shore. They sold the meat right there on the beach to anyone who was passing by. My family bought some, took it home and cooked it up.

Shark just melts in your mouth, it is so good.

Baja style King Crab, slipper lobsters and shrimp, along with lime marinated beef and chicken.

The Original Fish Company Restaurant & Fresh Fish Market in Los Alamitos is my favorite spot. Fresh fish, great service, and the best New England clam chowder outside of San Francisco. Their portions are huge, and reasonably priced. You won't be disappointed.
Check out their menu!
