I know alot of people hate when a song is re-done, but there are occasions when the song is really great and there are even rare occasions when the song is better than the original...

What are your favorites?

Here a few of mine:
Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide

Echo & the Bunnymen - People are Strange

Fugees - Killing Me Softly

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

GNR - Knockin on Heaven's Door

this list could get ridiculous...

Some of the worst...
Madonna - American Pie
Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child of Mine

Staying away from the standards, just pop

Phyllis Hyman absolutely KILLED "Betcha By Golly Wow."

EWF did the same to "Got to get you into my life."

Ok. They took a beautiful song and stripped it of any soul or feeling it had. They put it in the wretched pop meat grinder and it game out the other end a turd.

Michael Andrews and Gary Jules did a great job with "Mad World". Loved Johnny Cash's covers of Soundgarden. There's a lot more, but those came off the top of my had.

Vote for worst goes to any country band that tries to remake rock tunes as country. Honorable mention to Smashing Pumpkins abortion of "Landslide".

Some good ones already, but gotta recommend:

Take on Me from Ah-ha covered by Reel Big Fish

Everyone's covered it, but Jimi's cover of All Along the Watch Tower has gotta rank as one of if not the all time best cover song.

Social Distortion's Ring of Fire IMO is the best cover ever....but that's just my Mike Ness man love bias getting in the way.

Never heard the TLC version. I once spent a night playing cards with Chili on the island of Martinique. Took care of Left eye at Grady Hospital once.

I loved me some en vogue, one of those girls was as fine as a woman can possibly be.

They rocked IIWYG...almost rivaled Prince's version. It's on their CrazySexyCool album.

And the En Vogue chick had to either be Cindy or Dawn.
