This is another chapter in my triangle blog.

I have never really talked about this particular aspect of the offense, but it is one of the most important. Essentially, this talks about what happens when the Lakers run the offense in the halfcourt, but can't get a good shot, and there is half the shot clock to go. Most offenses opt out for a pick and roll, but the Lakers continue playing their offense and simply take up their spots. So you have the initial alignment, movement, and then a realignment and more movement.

It is this characteristic of the Triangle that constantly gives difficulties to Triangle beginners. Most players that have trouble with the offense have a hard time figuring this out.

I am only writing about the most common situations, and it still ends up being 14 diagrams.

When I come back from Europe later this summer, I will re-write my entire Triangle Offense e-book with new diagrams and new options and will post it here.

Enjoy.

Thanks Wilt. These articles are invaluable.

Wilt, what's the minimum amount of seconds needed to do the realignment? Is it strictly half the shotclock (12 seconds) or could it be done in less time?

I'm asking this because I often see Jordan call for a pick and roll when time is running out in the shot clock. This is often with 6-8 seconds left. Should he be trying to call for realignment in these situations or is there not enough time?

You should be a coach or something. Maybe you are? These are always great.
