Sorry, this is off-topic, but I've noticed there are a lot of doctors on this site, or at least a lot of smart people and I really do need some help.
I have had severe lower back pain since November. I mean constant intense pain every day. Usually when I get back pain i goes away pretty quick, but this never went away. So I finally went to my doctor at the beginning of this month. He gave me some drugs (flexoral, vicadin, etc) and I took x-ray. He doesn't seem to really care though. Somehow as I have been waiting for weeks, they have lost my x-rays and now I still don't know what's wrong with my back, but I can barely work or function at this point. The lakers are one of the only distractions that is keeping me sane.
So what I'm looking for is a reference to a good (maybe even fantastic) lower back specialist or surgeon in the LA or (preferably OC) area. Someone that you know is a great back doctor.
Please just don't refer me to the Lakers medical staff however
Thanks for your help. Go lakers. |

The Suns medical staff seems to do wonders. Really though I'm sure someone will help. Hopefully you get your problem solved. |

Does it feel more like muscle pain, or a disk issue?
Oh and if insurance covers it, I would hit up a chiropractor. A lot of people in the medical field think they are quacks, (some are tho) but I have had a lot of success with them. _________________ Think about how stupid the avg. person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

There aren't a lot of doctors on this site.
Try a website that has a forum more related, and a different doctor. Your chances of getting anything significant here are remote. _________________ "I accepted their challenge. Yeah there are, they give daily diagnoses on Bynum's knee. Unless you're telling me they aren't really doctors. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Go to your doctor and insist on another XRay or MRI if they haven't been able to find yours.
In the meanwhile, I'd suggest using google to find temporary solutions to help deal with it, including stretches, changes to your posture and other things.
A history of back pain runs in my family, and I've been dealing with it for the past few years. I've had good success with swimming as it helps ease the pain.
Best of luck to you. |

Try one of those machines that hang you upside down at an angle, locking your ankles in place, it relieves pressure on the spine, try to do that daily, and for as long as you can stand it. _________________ Discoflux wrote:

Get an MRI - sounds like a herniated disc.
x-rays won't show it. |

As a fellow back painee I feel your pain. My pain comes and goes now, but there was one point at time that my back was so bad (aggravated it at work) that I couldn't even turn over in the bed at night. It felt like the muscles were tensing so tight they were going to break a bone in my lower back.
Hopefully someone has a good recommendation for you, it sounds like you have reached your breaking point and the pain is pretty bad. I'm trying to avoid getting to that point, which doesn't seem far away for me. I'll be concentrating on strengthening my lower back muscles, abdominal muscles, and a lot of stretches targeted at the legs, lower back, and hips etc.

I heard they can help realign your back, wonder if they really help? _________________ "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."-The Greatest |

I've also heard that inversion tables work very well.
I'd give it a try... |

If you're willing to try something new, and our open to seeing a chiropractic doctor, this new therapy might be worth looking into.
Spinal Decompression Therapy
Make sure you get a diagnosis first from an orthopedic surgeon though. _________________ !

Personally, I'd definitely go see an orthopedic specialist, and/or see an acupuncturist.

The Egoscue Method worked for me, my daughter, my daughter's dance teacher and several of my friends. My daughter's dance teacher was told she needed back surgery before she tried this, by the way.
It's a very well thought out, researched, and organized physical therapy system There is at least one clinic in OC, and the headquaters is in San Diego.

Apparently it worked for Jack Nicklaus also (quote from site below).

Egoscue has written a couple books on his system (available from Amazon.com), so you can understand the basics and try it out for yourself.
Here's an online review of one of his books book review
