From Atlanta paper:

CLASH OF THE (FORMER GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL TITANS): That workout with Kwame Brown and Randolph Morris that we told you would happen this summer took place today (no, the media was not allowed to watch). Both players reportedly gave a good showing, with Brown drawing the most raves from onlookers.

Both guys appeared to be in good to decent shape and after three years with limited big men available, Hawks coach Mike Woodson said it was just good to see guys as big as Brown and Randolph wearing Hawks colors, even if it was just practice gear.

“It’s nice to see two big bodies first and foremost,” Woodson said. “Zaza, Al Horford and Solomon Jones are the only real bigs we’ve got. Josh Smith isn’t the big 7-footer, even though he’s done a great job for us holding it down at that position. But it was nice to have two big guys like those guys competing against each other in our gym and giving us an opportunity to look at them in hopes that they might be a part of our basketball team. Kwame might come back [Wednesday], so that let’s me know that he’s sincere about our team.”

Good for him. I think Kwame will be better in a situation with no pressure. Besides, ATL is way more laid back then LA/DC

I'd personally drive him to ATL or wherever the contract signing is. Anything to ensure he can't sign with us again. That'd be an unmitigated disaster.

For Kwame, it makes more sense to go to a team like Atlanta.

On LA, he'll be 3rd string, and maybe called upon in case of injuries or when his speciality of gaining good post position is needed. But that won't be very often. His chances of earning another big contract playing that role = 0%

Contrast that to Atlanta.

He can start there, potentially or play big minutes. If he puts up a solid 10/8 season, with them which he is capable of as a healthy starter, and the Hawks make the playoffs (which they should), his chances of getting a full MLE contract (30 million or so) like Diop got are that much higher, next season.

For Kwame, he's got to go to a place where he has a realistic chance to be a starter or be part of the 8 man rotation. That is very unlikely in LA.

Kwame could have helped them battle Perkins. They took Boston to 7 games without a big bruiser down low. Kwame is from the south so going to ATL could be just what he needs. From the sounds of his workout, he may be healthy for the first time in years. Good for him.

People were delusional to think we'd get him for the vet's minimum. He's an average starting center and he'll get the MLE. No reason for him to be a backup for us for a $1 million when he can get $5 million to be at least a half starter.

Doesn't have an official offer yet.

I'd like Kwame to have some success in his career and that is near his hometown. I hope it works for him. He doesn't need to be in LA and be booed everytime he drops the ball. He made his money, now I hope he can find his love for the game and enjoy some success with it.

CUTTING COSTS: Bartelstein said the Nuggets have talked to him about client Kwame Brown, a free-agent big man. But Bartelstein doubts Brown is a viable Nuggets option.

"I think they're in a cost-cutting mode," Bartelstein said.

Kwame is a such a waste. I mean with his body, the guy should be much more efficient on the court! If only he was more assertive, his career would have been much more prominent!

Hmmm...doesn't sound like we'll be getting Kwame for cheap then

Good to decent? He barely played after the trade and his season was over back in April. For a guy who's looking for his next contract and has a reputation for being a slacker, you'd think he would have shown up in great shape. Just the fact that he's having to audition for teams shows they are dubious about him.

Bartelstein's no dummy. You think he wants Kwame going into another situation where he's replacing an All-Star center?

There are teams that definitely won't be picking him up: Wiz, Grizz, and Bobcats

There are other teams in cost-cutting mode: Knicks, Heat

There are teams that are over or very near the luxury tax ceiling: Lakers, Celtics, Cavs, Bucks, Suns, Rockets, Pacers, Blazers

There are teams who've already spent all or most their MLEs or cap space: Hornets, Warriors, Clips, Magic, Mavs

I can't see where his agent has a lot bargaining power or where he's going to get him a full MLE. The Lakers spent $24 million on him and I doubt you'd find one GM in the league who thought was a good return on their investment other than the value they got for his expiring contract. You think those GMs are going to think $20 million is a better investment, even spread out over 4-5 years, for a player who got less productive over each year of his previous contract?

The max I can see Kwame getting is $10-12 million for the term of the contract.
