Report: "The Boss" To Play Super Bowl Halftime Show

POSTED: 1:39 pm EDT August 11, 2008

New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Bruce Springsteen will reportedly play the halftime show at Super Bowl XLIII.

The New York Post cited a source as saying Springsteen, the creator of such hits as "Born in the USA" and "Born to Run," will take the field at halftime of the February 1 contest in Tampa.

Springsteen would become the fifth straight veteran rock and roll act to play the Super Bowl halftime show following Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction at Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Paul McCartney was the first to follow Jackson. The Rolling Stones were next, followed by Prince and Tom Petty.

Talk about not playing to the young, hip football watching demo.

Prince put on a great show but still the Stones had some of their lyrics "bleeped out" and Prince managed to get a phallic reference in.

That being said they're trying to get acts that will stay away from controversy is all I'm saying.

I liked it when Gwen Stephani came out of the floor doing push ups in San Diego.

I hate the music, but the Britney, Justin, Nelly, Aerosmith half time show years back was the best I can remember seeing. Britney was at her peak and smokin' hot and the production was just amazing. It's been all downhill from there - for Britney and the superbowl halftimes.

Uh, there's a much older demographic that watches a lot of football too.

Yeah really, thank you. I'm so sick of these little kid acts, there's nothing "hip" about it. The majority of footballs fans are adults. Bruce is the man Excellent choice!

Lot of hate for the Boss :/

And the Britney & Justin coming on stage with Aerosmith thing was just disappointing. Seeing that made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Then you should learn. Springsteen's music is both excellent and socially relevant. That dhasn't changed just because the marketers are feeding your generation a lot of really bad hip hop.

That is true, but I was singling out commercial hip hop. I don't, btw hate all hip hop, but the mainstream crap is the worst stuff out there.
