As long as Affliction is around, don't count on it....
As for Afflication, if you listen to Dana White, he's betting/hoping that will be dead by the new year...
Quote: | None have been more vocal than UFC President Dana White. Since Affliction's emergence, his not-so-affectionate moniker for the company, "the t-shirt guys," has often been followed by a prediction of the company's approaching demise. In a teleconference Tuesday announcing Randy Couture's return to the UFC, White was true to form.
"In this economy right now, losing money is a really bad thing," he said. "There's nobody out there looking to fund anything, nobody's spending any money, nobody's investing in anything. When you're losing the kind of money that these guys are losing, you've gotta sell a lot of t-shirts to get back that money."
Until now, White's attacks have been limited to verbal slings and arrows thrown at Affliction. But during Tuesday's conference call, in response to questions about various legal disputes surrounding the Couture case, the outspoken president also may have hinted that his company could take its opposition to the next level -- possibly the courtroom.
"My dispute with Randy Couture is done," White said. "I'm not saying that my dispute with anybody else is done." |
Quote: | White told reporters he doesn't plan on stealing Affliction's crown jewel, Fedor Emelianenko, for a fight with Couture, even though Emelianenko's Affliction deal is exclusive only to the U.S. White remains unwilling to co-promote with Emelianenko's management company, M-1 Global, preferring to wait for Affliction's demise to pick up the Russian's services.
"These guys are dying on the vine, they'll be gone in a couple of months anyway, and Fedor will have to come here," said the outspoken UFC president. "You're not under contract if the company isn't in business anymore." |
Meanwhile, White issued another prediction of Affliction's end.
Quote: | "I would be (expletive) horrified if Affliction is still in business by January," he declared. "They're going to burn a lot of cash in the next few months, believe me. Good luck to 'em. I'll be sitting here waiting to see what happens." |

Mods, I think it would be a good idea to consolidate the most recent MMA threads into one... unless people object. I just thought it would be nice to have all the MMA related post in one thread... especially with all the news coming out and various different posting here on the LG. |

I agree. I've long been a fan of Liddell's but these short embarrassing losses are too much to watch. At least he was fun to watch while it lasted.
btw, Couture v. Lesnar FTW! I hope the old man can come ready again. Then, OMG, maybe Fedor in Affliction! I drool _________________ Free advertising in Jefe's signature. Inquire within. |

IMO, its not that Chuck is running out of gas. In fact, I think he still has alot more fighting in him. His recent losses is more due to the fact that other fighters are realizing what what his weaknesses are, and exposing it in every match. Chuck's kryptonite seems to be anybody with the last name Jackson recently. |

I was reading in the Chino Champion about a guy who moved from Chino to Forest Falls a month ago and was found dead this weekend high up in the mountains there. Not a great week for hikers.

Not that I want to denigrate his memory, but the whole trip was poorly thought out and executed:
1. Tanner travels to the desert on a just-purchased (possibly used) motorcycle. No shake out or testing.
2. He frets about the special equipment he'll need for the trip, yet runs out of both gas and water the first day.
3. He's ventures alone, a total neophyte out in the Mojave Desert during one of the hottest times of the year
4. He gets into trouble, so he successfully calls a friend for help. Then he leaves his camp (60 to 100 miles from a town), rather than staying put and using or building a shelter (crazy). |
