Monty McCutcheon was the ref on both calls.

Seriously, how can a guy who does his job that bad be getting key playoff assignments?

Can anyone honestly say an average HS ref would not do a far better job?

These guys make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year and are completely incompetent.

This is coming from a guy who called Battier's defense on Kobe when he fouled him on his 3 point shot in the 3rd quarter "that's good defense".

Strange.

No one can dispute there were a number of very bad calls, including the technical which may come back to devastate us later in the playoffs if Kobe gets 2 more. The mark of a championship level team is to be able to win in spite of the refs, I believe. We need to step it up a few notches and take care of business, 5 on 5 or 5 on 8, whatever needs to be done.

Easier said than done. You put give free points to one team (Farmar foul to end the half) give extra posessions (kicked ball), take away points (no free throws for Kobe's drives), take away the inside game of the bigger team (shoves in Gasol's back) and "playing harder" still usually doesn't equal a win.

I just remembered something. Wasn't Van Gundy the coach who was basically accusing the league of fixing games with bad refereeing and Stern threatened to throw him out of the league?

He's still calling it out...it is definitely the Boss.

I don't know how we're going to change the refereeing. The only alternative to playing harder is rolling over and giving up... I'd rather see our guys fight for it! If we do fight, we can win, I think.

u cant blame the refs...thats a copout!

lakers should look in the mirror and that 1st quarter. hustle and gang rebound on the glass. i didnt think it was fair refing but the lakers could have put themselves in a better position to win

LOL it is what it is. you dont have to like it. i dont like it one bit. but what can i do? turn on college hoops i guess? go outside and shoot some hoops myself. thats about it.

Your loss, if you don't watch. You'll miss the part where David Stern comes out and smacks Kobe on a game-winning attempt with a steel folding chair.

"I didn't screw Kobe. Kobe screwed Kobe!"

Afterwards you'll see Stern spraypaint his name on Kobe's back.

JVG laid the smack down on Stern pretty badly there...you can see the bad officiating all throughout the game

how can the Rockets be allowed to hack and whack Kobe without getting fouls called on them???
...see, Battier realized that his hand on Kobe's face aint doing the job as well as it used to, now he has resorted to tapping Kobe on the forearm. what a biyatz.

Well he was in the crowd. He was certainly prepared for the game 7-to-happen.

That was unbelievable. Did he not see Battier clutch Kobe's shooting hand with his own which caused the ball's trajectory to go all askew? LOL.

The Lakers played an awful first half and end of 3rd...but the officiating was nauseating. It was bad in the BOS/ORL game too.

Bad Officiating + Lackluster Effort = Disaster

still no excuse. we shouldn't lose to a shorthanded team. it's playoff man, so c'mon!

Yes this game had crappy refs and with our good ol buddy Stern watching from the sidelines. The NBA is so rigged and I'm convinced it is. I just want one player/coach to seriously get mad one day and just knocked the hell out of a ref and then laugh about it later

You give me a whistle and I guarantee you I can get a group of grade-schoolers to be an NBA team if that was what I wanted. Guaranteed.

It's Monty McCutchen

#13

He is the same one that last year Phil siad he is a bit of a "red ass" type official. So one official for this important game is known to have a little bit of a grudge against the Lakers. Another Official is known for his bad calls dating back for years. And yes 3 calls can be the difference between 10-7 and 17-1.

And lets add to that the look on Kobe's face. He knows he was getting "jobbed".

I don't want 'good' calls, I want fair calls for 48 minutes in each game.

What were JVGs words? He said something about how these types of calls are not bad officiating. These types of calls are coming from up top.

He said something like that. We need our video team to get a clip of that...please.
