TOPIC: CUTTINO MOBLEY
MARK SHWORTS AND LARRY COON
A CASE LIKE THIS (CUTTINO MOBLEY TRADE TO THE NEW YORK KNICKS) IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHEN A TEAM IS NOT INTERESTED IN THE BASKETBALL ABILITY OF A PLAYER; BUT RATHER, INTERESTED IN THE CONTRACT OF THE PLAYER, TO MAKE CAP ROOM AT A CERTAIN POINT (OR YEAR).
IF THE ILLNESS OF A PLAYER IS DISCOVERED, AFTER THE TRADE, BY THE TEAM; THEN THAT TEAM IS ALLOWED A "DISABLED PLAYER EXCEPTION" BY THE NBA.
THE KNICKS APPLIED FOR THAT DISABLED PLAYER EXCEPTION, AND WERE REJECTED. THE TEAM ALSO FILED AN INSURANCE CLAIM.
AT WHAT POINT WAS IT CLEAR THE KNICKS HAD NO INTEREST IN MOBLEY'S BASKETBALL ABILITY AND WERE ONLY INTERESTED IN HIS CONTRACT? WHEN THE KNICKS WAIVED THE PHYSICAL REQUIRES TO MAKE THE TRADE POSSIBLE.
THE KNICKS AGREED TO TAKE ON THE TRADE KNOWING MOBLEY WOULD NEVER PLAY A MINUTE FOR THE CLUB. THE KNICKS WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED A TRADE FOR A BAG OF BASKETBALLS, IF ITS CONTRACT EXPIRED IN 2010.
WELL DONE LARRY.

Mobley's story reaches into a lot of areas. They called me & asked a bunch of questions. The next day they said, "Hey, we're going to be in LA working on this story...want to go on camera?" |

I've seen you and Eric together ... unless I was heavily medicated and was seeing double.
Anyway, both of you should be happy to know neither looked like the other.
And I'll pass on the waist down thing. Going to have to hit the drugs again to get that image out of my head. _________________

Good stuff, Larry. I was hoping they'd give you props and they did when they introduced you. Awesome.
Is it me or did it look like Mobley knew the Knicks' intentions and just went along with it, because as he said at the end, he was going to retire soon anyway and didn't want to risk his life for just a few more years? That section where he said, "I don't believe in conspiracy theories," and just watching his body language..... just looks like he knew. |

No, I think it was the other way around. The risk:reward was a lot different for Cuttino in December '08 than it was ten years prior, so he took the opportunity to make a graceful exit. The Knicks just went along with it, picking up a few PR points in the process. |

Reality seeped in slowly? Scary huh?
What sucks about Cat retiring is he never got to play next to Kobe Bryant. I always felt he could have been this teams Ron Harper. He was a very skilled basketball player who actually thought the game while playing. I wish him a long time of good health and good will. _________________ Stop crying and start doing.
