|
|
This team is weak inside. Kwame and Cook can't defend, and they are average defenders. Cook should recieve ZERO minutes at center, and all of his center minutes should go to Bynum. George should see ZERO minutes at PF, and those minutes should go to Bynum, with Mihm or Kwame at PF. Bynum should play 15 minutes every night. He's big, he boards, and he finishes when he gets easy opportunities. He's our second best big man defender behind Kwame. There is no way this guy should sit on the bench as long as he does. His offensive game has even started to come around. By this time next year he will probably be our undisputed best big man. |

For all of Kwame's offensive deficiencies, he is actually a pretty darn good man to man defender. |

Bynum is not quite ready yet. He was HORRIBLE on defense against the Hawks. Completely lost as his man got layup after layup. |

If you notice in the last several games, Bynum has gotten pretty consistent minutes in the 10 minute range. I think it's good to keep him in that range and see how he does. Make him earn it - it'll be good for him in the long run. |

I agree with Lionel, Bynum has a long way to go before he can be considered a decent defensive player. He often doesn't recognize when to give help and when not to. He seems to be a fast learner, so I expect that to come with more experience and instruction. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Bynum is on the pace that he is suppose to be on, his conditioning and fundamentals are really not where they need to be for us to be handing him minutes. He is still at that age where he needs to earn his playing time. And considering that the coaching staff has seen him play a lot more minutes, and for alot longer periods of time that we have, I'm going to trust that it is not time for him.
But he is only 18, so it is not like there is any pressure for him to perfrom this season. I think he is going to have a nice long laker career, the last thing we need to do is rush him. _________________ "Kobe Bryant is an absolute nightmare. I disagree. I think if anything Phil's plan for Bynum at the start of the season was the wisest. Bring the kid on slowly, give him a couple of minutes here and there, slowly build his confidence, and don't expose him to much that will set him back or hinder his development.
Bynum is most effective in short spurts right now. When he plays more substantial minutes, his lack of experience is clearly shown. He looks out of place offensively and, as is stated above, is often befuddled defensively. Phil has evidently been displeased with his play at times, and it's unfair for the kid to be put under that kind of scrutiny and pressure so early in his career. He'll have enough of it later on down the line and he has to feel 100% secure mentally and physically if he's ever going to live up to the expectations that have been placed on him, unfairly or not. |

We need to be patient. He's barely getting started in the NBA. He needs time to learn from Kareem. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

Bynum right now is a better defender than Cook.
Cook is trash on defense. He was switchimng to joe Johnson yesterday and every damn time he turned his back and Johnson was wide open |

Bynum is good for the offense but not yet ready for the defence, but I think he can play a minimun of 15 minutes for game to learn |

he will only get better with more experience and playing time. when you really dont get no minutes its easy to have lapses and mess up's on defense and offense for that matter.
but i also agree bynum isnt ready for heavy minutes he needs to get into the wieght room add some muscle to that big frame he has. |

Totally agree. He was terrible in that game. You could really see how he was far from being ready to play solid consistent minutes. Bringing him in when we are up, is a much better way for him to build his confidence. Just look at the Knicks game where he was lighting it up. I think's Phil's approach is the best way to go. |

Which games are you referring to? There have been so many times when he has had the ball inside but couldn't even get it up to the rim without being swatted. He is weak as hell with the ball inside when there is a defender on him. He can hit wide-open dunks though as long as there is no one within 5 feet of him. |

I don't think Bynum has played enough to be considered a bright spot.

He certainly is worth developing. Tex Winter said something about a fast track for Bynum during last Summer. He will make his share of mistakes, but the Lakers will continue to challenge him to perform. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that.
