Quote: | Agent Rob Pelinka pushed hard to get Carlos Boozer traded to the Lakers before last week's deadline, and plans to do his bullying best to force the action this summer. For some reason Chris Mihm, Devean George and Aaron McKie didn't appeal to the Jazz, or, for that matter, the Warriors, whom Utah tried to lure into the deal by offering to assume the stretch contracts of Troy Murphy and Derek Fisher. Chris Mullin couldn't get off the phone quick enough. |

Not news...I think that everybody who WASN'T awed by the purported trade targets knew that Boozer would be the best we could get for expirirng contracts, the only things we were REALLY willing to give up...
I fully expect him to be a Laker in the future, but without expiring contracts, it may hurt more than it could have this Feb. _________________ Build around team players, not ISO players. |

Utah will eventually have to trade him. Boozer hates Utah. Given his history we all know he will get his way via pouting, faking injuries and what not. And the more he does that the lower his stock becomes, the better chance we have. I still think his value will eventually lower to just an expiring contract, which means NY will likely win out. _________________ The great Laker Center Tradition continues.....Mikan, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Gasol, AD....Gasol. |

Actually from what I heard, the deal was a three way
Lakers get Boozer
Jazz get Murphy
Warriors get Mihm and George
But Jazz got greedy and wanted Pietrus too. That's when the deal fell apart. |

Boozer needs to show he can stay on the court for more than 5 games before we make a play at him IMO |

that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If UTah was willing to take on some of GState's terrible contracts to get the deal going as a 3way, why not just take Devean/Mihm straight up for Boozer? An expirer and a servicable bigman seems much more practical to take on than Troy Murphy or Derek Fisher. |

If the Lakers can pull a three-way using Mihm, salary ballast and a first rounder, they might be able to land a SG to send Utah's way. Part of the challenge will be to find salary ballast, however. The Laker payroll is very thin in terms of contracts... I don't think George will be part of a sign-and-trade, and he'll probably prefer Minne. |

The question is, though would we want to trade our starting C and PF for Boozer?
That is Mihm and Cook.
Is Boozer worth that much? |

Not in this lifetime.
Or the next.
F Boozer.
Let him fake injuries in New York next to Curry. |

Yes, but you'll need more salary. If we can't include a sign-and-traded George, we'll be hard pressed to make it work. |

You are right. We would have to include Kwame instead of Mihm or use a third team. |

I doubt these talks were all that serious. All 3 of these teams are competing against each other and for the same position. I doubt they'd trade with each other in a way. |

But how would the salaries work?
We would be sending out way less than we would recieve.
Mihm+Cook = around 5 million
Boozer > 6.125 million
I don't think that deal works under the cap. |

Actually if I understand the 125% rule correctly then it definitely works. $5million * 125% = 6.25mil so they'd clear the restriction by $125,000. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. How do you know that Boozer wouldn't just sulk here? I don't want him or his contract. |

I would rather trade Kwame, unless the Lakers plan on Bynum being ready to play major minutes next season. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

Boozer makes 10 million+
Noway the Lakers can send Mihm+Cook and get Boozer back. There has to be another throw in or a third team involved. |

^How do you know he won't excel?
How did anyone know that Billups would be a Finals MVP after a series of heavy injuries his first 5 years in the league? _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Gotcha...If I would have read your quote correctly my bonehead would have seen that's exactly what you were pointing out. Keep in mind that Billups didn't have a huge contract yet. Plus, he didn't give up the chance to be LeBron's main man to go to Utah. Would you really give up Mihm, his increasing play, and his relatively small contract, for an unproven, over-paid product in Boozer? |

Giving up Mihm is a lot imo bc Boozer is too small to play center, and if we gave up George we wouldn't have a back up SF behind LO.
I'd trade LO for Boozer on the other hand.
Mihm/Kwame/Bynum
Boozer/Cook/Turiaf
George/Kobe
Kobe/Sasha
Smush/Sasha
