They have alot of ground to make up, at this point 4 games back is hard i don't see them taking a playoff spot they might barly miss the playoffs though but thats about it. |

Thanks, Dennis.
Looking at that, Memphis seems like a lock for 5th seed.
Clippers, Lakers, Kings, Hornets, Jazz and Rockets fight out for the last 3 spots.
I think it will take 45 wins to get that 6th seed. I don't know if the Lakers can win 13 more games, but that's what it would take.
The playoffs IMO will require 42-43 wins. So the Lakers need to win atleast 10-11 more games.
Impact games are vs Sacto and NO |

i hope the nuggest stumble and the jaaz grab hold off that division, they would be much easier too beat as a 6th seed, jus like us no playoffs expeirence, difference would be we have kobe bryant |

Cant agree with your more wolf, but i see this team heating up again, i dont think that the clippers are necessarily out of reach because teams like that usually have trouble getting over the hump and clinching their spot. It was a fast rise for the clippers from nothing to a 5th seed, claiming it wont be easy. But i do agree i see us getting that 6th seed, because memphis have been bad closers these last 2 year i believe, well its seemed like that, i could be wrong. |

Since I've been keeping track of it since before the 81 game, I'll post it here. It seems appropriate. This is the Lakers' magic number for each team currently below them in the standings.
Added Hornets on Mar. 10.
Added games remaining on Mar. 20.
The Lakers only have to finish ahead of 7 of these 8 teams to clinch a playoff spot.
Updated after games on Apr. 16.
Lakers - 1 games remaining
Portland - Done
Seattle - Done
Golden State - Done
Minnesota - Done
Houston - Done
Utah - Done
Sacramento - 1 (GR: 1)
New Orleans - Done
Clinching a spot:
The Lakers clinched a playoff spot on April 16!
They can clinch the 7th seed on April 18 if Sacramento loses to Seattle.
What is a Magic Number?
A magic number represents the combined total of wins (for themselves) and losses (for their opponent) a team needs in order to finish with a better record than said opponent. It's usually not used until closer to the end of a season when you're only talking about 1-3 teams, but since the Lakers are fighting for a playoff spot, I thought I'd throw it up here a little early and show all the teams. Obviously, Houston, Utah, New Orleans, Sacramento and our Lakers are aiming for one of those last two spots. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks

Lakers combined record against those teams below us in the standings is 9-7. Sad...12-4 and we're talking about how we should be trying to get below the Clips for the 6 spot.
No use crying over spilt milk, but frustrating anyway. |

Actually, they're only 9-9 versus those teams. But, if you want a bright side, they're 5-1 over the last 6 games against them. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

their only 3 games behind in the loss column. Not too hard to makeup with the pace their winning games at. _________________ Pain is temporary, at the end of pain is success... |

You are welcome.
I have an Excel spreadsheet that I cut-and-paste the league standings into which generates the post. If anyone sees an error, let me know so I can correct the spreadsheet. _________________ <-- My avatar is Margaret Nolan from one of the Carry On films. I think another important factor of note is how many games each of these teams has against each other!

Except that we seem to have the Nuggets number - we beat them quite often. In contrast, the Jazz seems to have our number, as they beat us quite often, too.
Thanks, Dennis. This took time, effort and work. I appreciate it. |

Excellent. This win against the Spurs was huge and also dramatically reduced the remaining opponent's winning %, now that the SA is behind us. |
