Were you pro tank before the start of the season?
When this season spirals out of control by the All Star Break, 80% of you will turn into pro tank where us RATIONAL PEOPLE said we should be tanking FROM THE START. | ? |

The lakers with an all star or two draft picks would probably be able to leverage that into another 3 or 4 titles.
I'm guessing that's the crux of team tank. |

I agree that tanking is the most rational thing to do so we can get a center to pair next to Randle, but I do not think that we have the roster to do it this year. I see us having a year very similiar to the Pelicans last year so unless we get a lucky bounce with the ping-pong balls we are likely out of a pick.
Also there is nothing wrong with people hoping for the best and being optimistic before the season starts. Every fan wants their team to suceed and you should not look down on fans who want to win games. |

Good luck trying to tank with a healthy Kobe and guys on our roster like Lin trying to get their next NBA contract. It worked last year because of our injuries, unless Jimbo personally clubs all the starters this year I don't see them doing bad enough to get a top 5 pick. |

I am still amazed at how terrible a team has to be to actually tank for a top 5 pick. I realized I never followed the bottom feeders before. It was not fun doing so last year.
Last year the Lakers were pathetic at times. And could only get the 6th worst record. I do not see the Lakers being that bad again this year.
At the best I am predicting competing for the 8th spot. But at the worst I think they win 35- 40 wins. Giving the Suns a teens lottery pick.
Seems fans have two choices.
-Wish for a interesting season of health and team chemistry to sneak into the playoffs.
- Or hope for another round of injuries to collect lottery balls for the minuscule chance they can land a top 5 pick. |

I don't get why there is a team tank this year, there's no way we'll be bad enough for a top 5 pick. So you guys basically have a thread dedicated to hoping that phoenix gets our pick....I mean last year I understand, but come on guys what's the point of this thread? Why not just hope the Lakers have as good of a season as possible so the Suns don't get a good pick out of it? |

Follow this syllogism:
This team will not intentionally tank.
If you don't intentionally tank it's impossible to get a top 1-2 worst record.
If you don't have a top 1-2 worst record there is no guarantee of a top 5 pick. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

We are not going to tank since most players are in a contract year and will be playing for their next contract.
If we can make the playoffs then the pick we give to Phoenix won't really matter as the pick we got from Houston will be comparable to it. |

Well idk how people can support tanking when we don't have our pick and we have close to no chance of getting it. So these people are basically rooting for us to lose with no good outcome. Great "fans" right? |

It's not about individual talent, its about talent as a whole. If we could play as a team and everyone does there part at there position we can win 40-50 games. Depends if Bryon can get these guys to listen to him |

Well they want us to tank into a Top 5 pick....which might actually be harder than making the playoffs.
They are the worst type of fan. |

I don't think this team will be mediocre, will be either one of the worst top 6 teams in the league or will surprise people in make the playoffs.
Byron can talk about playing defense but you need the players to do it and we don't. Wes and Davis are the only above average defenders on the team and neither will get a lot of minutes, everyone else on the team is average or below average defensively. Until we get a rim protector I don't think will make the playoffs, I have us winning 24 games next year and keeping the top 5 protected pick. |

I don't mind the tanking mentality. You're a fan, you can choose how you want to live life. But I don't understand why the title for this thread has that Howard Beck speculation. Not only is it false, but who the hell cares what Howard Beck thinks?
If people want to tank, at least use legit info. |

Were just realist, this roster is made up of cast offs and a star well past his prime coming off of 2 injuries. The writing is on the wall, the FO won't publicly say "we are tanking" but this is a roster that is made for it. Even more so then last year, Dantoni offense won us 5 games that we shouldn't have won. Byron is not known for his offense, defensively not much either. |

A true realist would wait for the games to start before going into tank mode. |

^ Disagree, it's much harder to make the playoffs then it is being in the top 5. Were projected to be one of the top 5-7 worst teams in the league. The west is tough and the east will be a lot better. The 76ers, Bucks, Celtics, and T-Wolves without Love are the only teams the Lakers have better rosters then. Some of you still believe Kobe will still be a top 5 player and lead us to the playoffs, just not realistic at all. |

I'm not on Team Tank this year in 2015, but anti-tankers just don't get it do they? Tanking isn't about losing games. It's about winning games.
The only difference is that you're sacrificing wins today in the hope for more wins tomorrow. Makes total sense.
If no one ever thought that way, then stars wouldn't ever be taken out of the game with 2 fouls in the first quarter. You'd never intentionally foul in any scenario. You'd never pull your starters out of the game even in a 20 pt blowout with 2.5 mins left.
I think the problem is some people can't see beyond today what is right in front of them. That's why we keep getting in to these "you play to win the games period" type discussions. |

Can't even almost agree with you here.
Kobe doesn't have to be a top 5, or even top 10 player for us to not be able to be one of the 5 worst teams in the league.
We were without Kobe for practically the whole season last year and we still weren't in the worst 5. And we've upgraded most positions now with actual starters. |

I don't think it's worth it without our pick, It's too risky. Imagine if Phoenix got our 6th pick?
Last year was enough for me, we actually had our pick. Randle was worth it IMO. |
