The Mad Max movies are all great, and this looks just as promising, with the same writer/producer/director on board.
But is the franchise a forgotten relic of the 80s? Are any younger folks on this site familiar with this influential series, and Mel Gibson's breakout role? _________________ -Avenue of the Champions- -RIP Dr Buss- #824

I don't have a good feeling about this one. It's going to be hard to recreate that true Mad Max feel - at least to this old timer. The original was just that at the time. In this day and age it's just something people have seen in various forms hundreds of times.

Yeah ... I'm just getting old I guess ... the new form of quick image shifting that places a priority on sensory and style overload over substance basically makes all the new breed of movies look the same.
But that's definitely the norm for trailers.
The only thing that separates films these days is story. It's the original creator of the franchise so maybe this is just keeping up with the times in marketing.
Looks like it's got netflix written all over it for me. _________________ We back.

I get the sense that since Mad Max is already Mad Max in this movie, there will be like a 15 min. section of the movie devoted to his backstory for the younger set.
Or maybe a mashup of Mad Max 1 and 2 just like they did with the new superman movie.
Overall, should do ok. Not happy to see Thunderdome as the last of the Mel version. You never see what happens to him overall.

Love Mad Max. Love George Miller.
But this trailer didn't excite me. Feels like three movies was enough - there was limited story to begin with.
It looks like they just took the style of the original - which was awesome at the time - and just made a new movie with a bunch of explosions and chases and a thin storyline.
The movie is a sequel and it isn't. It's not exactly a remake either. Also, loved the trailer. I seen enough "bad ass trailers" that I'm not impressed that much but this trailer was impressive to say the least.

Imo, same basic ending of Road Warrior is inferred in MM:BT. He goes on wandering after a failed or abandoned chance at a new start, in both instances while facilitating the escape for others. His "madness" over his losses in the first ep carries thru the trilogy. He prefers to be mad, but he's unable of being totally mercenary (various parts show his morality is intact). _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Yeah. That's pretty much what you can surmise. He is a wanderer, scavenger dealing with his trauma in his way.
Just would have liked to see if someone kills him eventually or maybe he meets a new love, etc.

True and the kids were the Ewoks of the trilogy. I watched Thunderdome in full for the first time in many years some months ago. In the past, I stopped at the point where the race was over way more times than not, but I rode it thru to the end on the last viewing. Their post-apocalyptic Aussie diction was well-written, I must say. Sounded Twainish. I guess Miller and/or his producers wanted a blockbuster script for the 3rd one, meaning less sexual explicitness and violence than Road Warrior. There was a scene in Road Warrior where you could see a fully uncensored porn style shot of a woman straddling one of the bikers, but you could definitely see in there for a second. In the preview of the new one, there was a group of women chained together, one saying, "Do you wanna get out of this?..." I'm gonna assume they were a group of chattel for the bad guys who were trying to escape. I'd be surprised if there will the kind of gay suggestiveness present in Road Warrior (the character Wes with his boy toy on a chain; a sect of the bad guys called "gayboy berserkers" by Humungus). I don't think that kind of stuff would fly in today's climate. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Yeah. There's the couple on the ground uncovered with a gust of wind, the rape scene and the other scene you mentioned on the bike. And definitely a homoerotic vibe to it all.
Mowhawk's boy toy when I was a kid thought he was a girl, but then again I had the same problem with Boy George. I just couldn't tell back then. LOL
As for the new movie, if there is no law in the wastelands, then where is political correctness?
We'll have to see if this movie is as creative as the originals, or just a cheap knock off. I hope its genuinely good, but it can never be the same as it was also a product of the time too.
