I'm trying to recall all the point guards the Lakers have had going back in time...
I know Jeremy is no CP3, but from what I have heard and the few games I have seen, he seems pretty well rounded and still improving. Jeremy can pass, drive, improving shooter, can play some defense...isn't a munchkin....(btw, how tall is he?)
Regarding his consistency, I hope it's due to inconsistent playing time. It sounds like his situation in Houston was less than ideal. Just look at how MDA screwing around with Jordan Hill's playing time affected his production.
So anyways is Jeremy Lin potentially the best Point guard the Lakers have had since:
Steve Nash - always injured
Steve Blake - always injured
Darius Morris - sucked, over dribbled, didn't pass, couldn't make layups
Ramon Sessions - Mike Brown ruined him, deer in the headlights during playoffs
Derrick Fisher - Old and washed up, didn't really play point guard, couldn't penetrate, couldn't defend
Gary Payton - Over the hill
Chucky Atkins
Tierre Brown
Sedale Threatt
Magic!

Once Lin does it for reals wearing the P & G, then we can rank him. NVE and Sedale Threatt is a pretty high threshold. Leave the Magic word out till you bring 2-3 rings and a MVP to the table....

Based on many people here, I thought the consensus was that he was a sieve on defense.

The consensus was terrible. You don't exist in the league as long as Fisher did (probably would still be playing if Phil hadn't taken over the Knicks) without being good.

according to 82games, last season Lin played about 2/3 time at PG (mostly play spot-up SG role in offense), 1/3 time at SG (when Harden off or smaller line-up, actually play PG role a bit more in offense).
When Lin played as PG, he hold his opponent to 44.1% efg 13.3 PER (Beverley hold is opponent to 48% efg 14.3 PER). I challenge you guys find a PG hold his opponent to lower efg and/or PER, I haven't found one at 82games.
While Lin played as SG, his defense number was pretty bad (54.4% efg, 17.4 PER), he was in disadvantage in term of height, wingspan, strength etc.. If you watched Rockets last season, you knew they didn't have any decent backup SG, so Lin had to play this role. As a result, many people comment that Lin is more a combo/shoot first guard rather than a PG, which is a misunderstanding, maybe cozs Lin had far better PER 19.3 (ranked 5th in SG role)as SG.
I think he is being under-rated around here. Not expecting him to be an All-star but I think he will contribute and be a solid 2nd tier PG. At least good enough to see how he fits this year and not continue to see trade proposals giving up assets for other PGs.
High B-ball IQ, good playmaker with the ball, good 3pt shooter. (think he will improve 3pt% due to more spot up opportunities) and pesky defender. He also has the ability to have big scoring games occasionally.
He is a different type of PG then Fisher. He will be asked to play a different role.
And how could you leave Smush Parker off your PG list! Infamous in his own right.
To answer OP, possibly best since NVE, though it was supposed to be Nash.
Fisher was a perfect fit for the Triangle, and not as accomplished individually. Since we don't have a comparable system, I can't name Fisher as the best PG since NVE. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Fisher gets the nod, however Lin has shown a gear Fisher never had. Fisher could take over for 3-4 minute batches. Lin did take over at times for halves, quarters in his early career.
Lin could develop into the best PG since NVE, though now pulling up Nick Van Exel's career stats... if Lin had a moderate rebound post Houston... yes he could be our best PG since Magic in terms of production.
I would put Fisher as best since Magic, that's taking into consideration of having gone through championship multiple times (obviously not the star, but as a starter), leadership, and 0.4 second.
D Fish kept us in many games and undeniably contributed to many of our championships. Until Lin does the same, Lin is not better than Fish.
Yep, and Fish was not always old and over the hill; it happens though. And Blake was pretty good off the bench.
I guess I'll need to see what Lin brings or not before I know. Nash was supposed to be a Great pick up but that didn't work out, so let's just wait on Lin and wish him the best...

yeah, no doubt.
If people are considering old Fish, then it's a question
if people consider Fish at the same age Lin is now, Fish was about 4x better then Lin - and, even young Fish wasn't all that great, so that's even fainter praise on Lin _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

I am with you, I was excited when we traded for Lin and am eagerly waiting to see what he can do here. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
I believe Lin will give you more production during the regular season, but Fisher will give you clutch moments and big games during the playoffs. Fisher has helped accomplished more, but I think the overall production from a player vs player standpoint makes Lin a better point guard, in my opinion.
good reads on some lakers history. i am a lin fan. but until proven otherwise. Fish wins over Lin for now. _________________ JL#7 in Purple and Gold. Shoutout to my Lakers4Life Buddy Ian M.
