So you would take Channin Frye over Kevin Garnett because of his age? Skill counts more than Age. |

Banks > Cassell (Cassell is in his late mid to late 30s. Overall he is still better than Banks at this point, but I like Banks' outlook a few years from now)
KG > Frye (KG is still dominant and very young. Frye is miles behind KG) |

I like Sam I Am.
I prefer Banks. Youth, Speed, defense, upside.
But Sam would be a nice pickup too (experience, outside shot) _________________ Black Panther is Batman, done better. |

Sam fits the 2008 plan and is a better player right now... especially if we pull the trigger with Chicago. Sam could play lighter minutes if we had Roy nd Smush backing him up. Sasha becomes your backup at 2.
Banks is just a variation on Smush, a marginal upgrade maybe |
What 2008 plan? I don't know why anyone is still holding on to that pipedream. No one is coming in 2008 give it up. Sam Cassell is 36 years old. He's not going to be playing at this level forever. His decline is has to come sometime. Sign Sam Cassell and in 2 years we will be doing this all over again. Banks is lightyears ahead of Smush defensively. That alone is a good enough reason to sign him. |

I would go with Banks. He is raw and underdeveloped, but as a point guard in this system, he will mainly have to do two things: hit spot up jumpers and play great defense against the opposing point guard. He can already do the latter very well. He showed glimpses of the former in Minnesota. Banks can also penetrate and finish..so he can mix up spotting up with pumpfake-drives. He will get alot of opp playing next to Kobe.
I believe that if you give Banks playing time, he will become a good role player for the Lakers. Cassell is a guard who can hit spot up jumpshots ans core points, but do we really want to spend our MLE on another overaged veteran? Especially a point guard who has a history of breaking down most of the time (The Clippers were very fortunate he did not sit out extended time due to injuries this year...partly because he had a great backup in Livingston)
Thus, I'll go with Banks. With KObe Bryant, you dont need a Sam Cassell. Yo just need a backcourt partner who can defend and produce offense from the open spaces Kobe will create for him |

I don't doubt Banks will be a good roleplayer next to Kobe. I would like to have Cassell because of experience and the ability to put up points & hit clutch shots. _________________ "Formerly known as The_Butler_Did_It"

Don't you want someone who is sure of what he's doing bringing the ball up and running the offense? I think the reason most people don't want Banks over Cassell is because they don't wanna hand over the offense to someone they're not 100% sure of...We're all 100% sure Sam knows the game and what to do in every situation. For 2 years (the years Phil is signed) he can be our Ron Harper, only better. Then we have 2008. Not saying we're gunna get a big-name superstar, but at least we'll have cap space to sign whoever we want and fill in the void for Cassell (or whatever spot we need to fill)...PeACe _________________ http://ourworld.cs.com/DEEEEzzzz%20NuTz/lakerslkobej.bmp |

I will guarantee it now... Cassell will see a dramatic drop in his scoring average next year and will begin talking about retirement. Instead of 16.3 ppg, like he did this year, he'll go to 12 or so ppg. If he deosn't, I will take a vacation from LG.net for a week. haha |
