They did it to make room for Josh Smith. Not earth shattering, but for a rook he has done very well and plays D and rebounds. We could do worse. |

I'd take anybody that was on defensive teams in college. I want guys that play defense. |

He's undersized, but I really like Tarik Black.
Just a solid guy to set screens, rotate on D, and hit the boards. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Never trust nba.com.
He can hang in the NBA because he has a standing reach of 8'11".

Mitch is tanking...he hasn't done anything to prove otherwise.
That Rondo deal was a nice try to throw fans off. |

Getting a hustle guy with great value will show improvement for talent, maintaining health, and "not tanking"
It's not like he's adding 5 wins by himself. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Don't we need cap space to claim him? _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Yep, always nice to have D guys...it'd be real great to find a real 7' Center

If the Lakers dump Kobe. Lakers could have had Dwight and Josh Smith for cheap. Houston will make it to the Finals. GS don't stand a chance with their front court.
I just watched the Rockets and the team is stacked now. |

Lakers could have kept Dwight, and Kobe and gotten Josh Smith. They'd have given him the most with the Steve Nash DPE.
So don't try that. Both Dwight and Harden are making max's. |

Dwight did not want Kobe and MDA on the Lakers. |

On Friday, I posted about Tarik on page 73 of the 2015 Free Agency Thread:
Official 2015 Free Agency Thread
Bard207 wrote: | Tarik Black is/was on a two year contract with Houston at the minimum salary for the 2014 - 2015 and 2015 - 2016 seasons.
Houston Rockets Team Payroll
2014 - 15
$507,336
2015 - 16
$845,059
16. What are the players' salary restrictions?
2014 - 15 Season and Years in NBA is 0 == $507336
2015 - 16 Season and Years in NBA is 1 == $845,059
In regards to the Lakers being allowed to maker a waiver claim:
65. What happens when a player is released? What are waivers? What is the Stretch provision?
Quote: |
A team can claim a player on waivers only if one of the following is true:
* The team is far enough under the salary cap to fit the player's entire salary.
* The team has a Disabled Player exception for at least the player's salary (see question number 25), and the player is on the last season of his contract.
* The team has a trade exception for at least the player's salary (see question number 85).
* The player has a minimum salary contract.
|
The Lakers are over the Salary Cap, so it isn't possible to claim Tarik Black under the first criteria.
Since Tarik has a two year contract, it isn't possible to use a DPE which requires that the acquired player has to be in the final year of his contract.
Since the Lakers used Cap Space this Summer in the trade for Lin, any previous Traded Player Exceptions that the Lakers had were likely forfeited.
Perhaps it would be possible to claim Tarik under the fourth possible criteria since his contract is/was at the minimum salary. Clarity is lacking if the second year of his contract would be a problem for the Lakers being able to successfully claim Tarik.

His salary is around $500,000, I think we need that much cap space to claim him. If he clears waivers then we can sign him to the vet minimum after clearing a roster spot. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Looks like we got him and waived "X" I'm sure he'll fill a good spot on the bench, will probably get most of Sacre's minutes.
He'll be a good banger for us and should post some good garbage points and rebounds.
Big and Strong player with good understanding on the floor. Let's hope he works out for the rest of the season.
I really think Sacre is the next Laker to exit with Kelly soon to follow... |

Seems like we got him. Now let's send Sacre to Cleveland for a 2nd round pick. |
