Somebody is getting fired and sued for this.
Wasn't a simple misunderstanding.
When we can't trust ourselves as Americans, we are truly broken.
Plus this doesn't surprise me for Texas.

The concern is totally understandable.
The reaction? Totally unacceptable. |

Which is why I don't think anyone will get fired. Sued maybe but not fired. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

This is not going to be a good day. I agree with rf.
Had the clock been brought by an ethnicity other than Islamic there would have been no incident.

The worst part is that he's been repeatedly telling the cops that it's a clock and that he brought it to show his teachers, yet the cops are still spewing (bleep) like "he kept maintaini it was a clock, but there was no broader explanation". He just (bleep) told you that!!!
Oh and another: "It could reasonably be mistaken as a device if left in a bathroom or under a car. The concern was, what was this thing built for? Do we take him into custody?”
And that's all after the "That's just who I thought it was" part, AND he's still suspended from school.
They're STILL to bigoted to realize they even did something wrong. Shameful IMO. I hope the kid and his family can get a nice payday out of the ISD and the police force. I'm usually not one for the "fake outrage" you see on a lot of things these days, but this one really pissed me the (bleep) off.. |

Oh and the sad part of all of this is that it probably completely ruined this kids curiosity and drive to succeed. If I were him I'd probably completely disillusioned with my interest in academics and especially in that type of hobby. No matter what he builds people are just going to assume he's building bombs..
There's a good chance this incident took him from a kid with an extremely bright future to some pissed off teenager with a bunch of pent up anger.. Hopefully he can stick with his hobby and still be a successful adult. From that article it sounds like he has a lot of talent |

Even worse is the fact they interrogated him while denying permission to speak to his parents.
It's a violation of civil rights IIRC. |

Ha.
IMO, there should have been concern regardless of ethnicity. If there was greater concern because of the ethnicity, I'd understand that too. (Don't like it, but I get it).
So my only real disappointment here is the reaction. |

If you think that exactly the same thing could not, or would not, happen wherever you live, you are kidding yourself. I know that some of you get your jollies by taking pot shots at the south, and Texas in particular, but ironically most of you are from freaking California. |

I believe the official slogan under consideration in California is, "Yeah, but at least we ain't Texas". |
