Not making this an official FA thread or anything, but with WB's extension, it'll be interesting to see what the Lakers do long-term planning wise. Here are some notable FAs (didn't include RFAs as the good ones hardly ever change teams):
2017 may be a good year to preserve cap space. My top targets are mostly in 2018 (George/Boogie). Lakers could use possibly amnesty at that point too (Moz?) if necessary. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
LOL. True. BTW, listened to your podcast during the morning commute. Excellent stuff. And I agree with you about Paul George. My goodness would he be amazing on the Lakers. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Thanks, man. Don't forget that Westbrook is a FA in '18 as well, even after this extension. Russell Westbrook (29), Paul George (28), & DeMarcus Cousins (28)...probably the 3 guys who have been most rumored to future Lakers...all hitting UFA at the same time.

We gotta get lucky with one, no?
WB will be turning 30 that year, so I'm off the WB train. Just don't think his body will hold up especially after paying him a Tier 3 max (would it be over 36m/year???).
George/Boogie would be tier 2 maxes, so that extra 5-6m/year make a big difference to me, especially since their games aren't dependent on all-time athleticism.
If we could have a framework of:
DLO
George
Ingram
Randle
Zubac
With JC/Nance and company off the bench.
OR
DLO
JC
Ingram
Randle
Boogie
I prefer the George iteration most. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
The bolded probably get closer to the max. So maybe we don't really need to go there to preserve some cap space for 2018 (George, Boogie, and yes, WB).
Maybe Clips move on from Reddick, and he wants to stay in LA so we get a deadeye SG off the bench? Livingston would be a great backup, etc. Maybe we choose not to blow our cap space in 2017 to get a 1/3 shot of George/Boogie/WB. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
With the 1st pick in 2017 draft, Lakers select .....
I would love that...plus 30-35 wins and an upstart team.
If the Cavs could do that...so can we.
2017 i don't think any max guy is coming
2018 maybe depends on how our boys are growing.
Not getting my hopes high on signing any marquee fa any time soon
Yeah. I wouldn't mind sort of "punting" to ensure we have a max for 2018. I'd be ok with supplementing the young group with guys like Korver/Reddick/Livingston, then aiming for a max in 2018 when we have a better shot at George/Boogie or even WB. We'll be a much better team by then IMO. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
We have around 51m in committed salaries for 2018 at this point. However, Randle will be a RFA, and we will likely use 2017 cap space.
Worst comes to worse, and if we badly needed the cap space, there's a possibility of an amnesty (Moz) and we could always move JC (on a really favorable deal) if the target is say Paul George. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
2017: we're not winning any championships and the playoffs are going to be tough to make, so let Luke create a culture/atmosphere without the weighty expectations. Let the young guys play and make tons of mistakes. Don't try to make unnecessary trades at this point.
2018: continue cultivating the culture. Maybe pick up a few ancillary role players in FA. Def ensure that we have enough cap space to go after PG13/Boogie/or WB in 2018. We also likely have a 1st rounder if we don't have a top 3 pick in 2017. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Between the age and actual skill level of these players the only player I see worth big $$ is Boogie Cousins. The rest will be either near 30 or aren't that special of player. _________________ Back to Back Yeah, Yeah...and you know that!

If we had a DLO/PG13/Ingram perimeter trio, with JC off the bench, we would have the best perimeter group outside of the Warriors. We could overtake them IMO at that point. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

That would be a crazy trio. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts!

Seriously. Length like never before, and the ages of that trio would be 22, 28, and 20. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Outside of Hayward, I don't see a single fit in 2017. Ideally we're looking for a SG/SF type of player who can start and make Clarkson our 3rd guard off the bench. So included in that range is a bunch of stop gaps (Reddick, Livingston, Iggy, Korver).
I wouldn't spend a single penny and try to land someone in 2018. There's going to be some "gettable" superstars in Boogie and George. And by then, we should have our young pieces a year or two from entering their primes.

Top of the draft class next season are mainly guards.
None that interest me other than Paul George and unless Cousins gets his act together which I've seen no indication he will then I don't want him either. He'll get Luke fired and mess up the culture Luke tries to instill. George is a superstar, a top ten player and a seamless fit. _________________ #CowboysNation

2017: Hope for a top 3 pick and sign Iggy to a large 1 year deal
2018: DMC and PG13
Like I said in another thread, this is why I don't like years 3 and 4 of the Mozgov/Deng deals. It takes away flexibility. We could of been able to offer both PG13 and DMC the max. As we have seen, stars like playing with other stars, especially former Olympic teammates. By that time Zubac/Randle/Ingram/JC/Russell and Nance/Brown would of had adequate time to develop.
In 2018, we will be looking like (year going into)
JC 5th year
Russell 4th
Randle 4th (not counting the year he got hurt)
Nance 4th
Brown 4th
Ingram 3rd
Zubac 3rd
With 2 max slots open if Mozgov/Deng wasn't on the books. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though."

Then again the Lakers gave up on those hopes and I don't know if Luke can control Cousins' crazy behind. PG maybe but as long as the Pacers are in contention we won't be able to touch him. Plus Cousins will just end up in Boston anyways just to spite us because the Kings and C's hate us.
Small forward Paul George
Remaining contract: two years, $37.8 million plus $20.7 million player option for third year
Eligible for extension: Sept. 25
Like Harden, George has two more years on his contract, but George also has a 2018-19 player option on top of it. Since his contract runs four seasons even if he declines the option, George is eligible. Doing a renegotiation and extension this year could give Indiana’s best player an $8 million raise in each of the next two seasons in exchange for one or two additional seasons of commitment. If the Pacers retain cap space for next summer, they could do so then with an even higher max salary but George could see unrestricted free agency on the immediate horizon and choose that instead. In this scenario, the Pacers could give
