UGH. Online early this morning, I see the Laker's ad presents itself. It is of Randle (highlighted prominently center) flanked by Ingram and Russell.
Their faces are frozen with blank stares, almost expressionless - hell - they look sullen. Great.
The verbiage is "The Future".
Gawd help us if this is the best image the team can conjure to stir a fan's soul.
Pardon me for noting viewing prices have not gone down.
The talent quality may have been raised overall but I'm luckily forced to watch from TV for nickels per game rather than for hundreds per seat. That said, I'm certain that even if I still lived in SoCal, Laker management would have a long row to hoe if they're gonna make progress towards convincing lifelong fans like me me to line their pockets with my gold right now. Mozgov for $16M. Bah. _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”

When you have renewals at 90+% and a waiting list that more than covers anyone who gives up their seats, you're not exactly going to put forth your best efforts in advertising for something that is essentially not available.
They're not trying to convince you to spend your money on tickets. They don't need it. |

Do the Lakers really have to "convince" a fan to spend money on Lakers memorabilia?
They don't even have to advertise for me. I'm still buying Lakers crap I don't need. |

I'm guessing that whichever ad was seen (OP ?) was advertising paid for by someone other than the Laker club. A ticket agency perhaps ? A content rights owner of Laker action or a cable/satellite provider of that content ?
Those folks will find it profitiable to be continually stirring up enthusiasm for those viewing rights. It's in those folks' interests. I think it's safe to assume that the increases seen this Summer in higher player salaries will be passed along to the viewer all along the distribution chain (be he reachable from on site, PPV, cable, TV.) |
