That's from 1978-1994 and he went well beyond that in all kinds of ventures. Tell me that guy wasn't a hit factory. He had bumps along the way from what I recall. His father was a bastard and he had a house burn down in the late 80s.
Several local stations have been playing his music all day. What a (bleep) day.

Same. I think I was in 8th grade in 1989 when it came out. "Free Fallin'", "Runnin' Down A Dream" and "I Won't Back Down" were all mega-songs.

My favorite Tom Petty song was You Got Lucky. I remember as a kid, I was 6-7 and MTV would play the video ALL the time. I thought it was teh absolute coolist video. For 1982, it was bad ass and had an awesome Mad Max/western vibe. I forgot about it but decades later through the miracle of the internet I found it again.
Take a long, lonely drive and tell me if it's not the greatest song to cruise to. _________________ KOBE

My Mom went through palliative care a few weeks ago. It was rough, but she had almost a week of friends and family coming by and hanging out at the hospital to share stories and reminisce. She actually was conscious a good couple of days past what they predicted, and once she fully slipped under she passed within 12 hours or so.
Sad to hear this about Tom. It's really odd considering I almost went to see him last week at the last minute. He was one of those guys I consider part of the roots of my generation of music fan. As others said, I wasn't super into his music but always enjoyed it and felt like he was one of those whose sound was influential.
RIP Tom
My deepest condolences to you and your family, DMR. _________________ We back.

Hell Yeah that's on some Rocky 4 no easy way out reflective drive song level (bleep). _________________ "The best there is. The best there was. The best there ever will be.", said Bret Hart regarding the Los Angeles Lakers.

Yep, I overlooked that one while searching his discography. Defo an FM staple.
I had End Of The Line as It's All Right by mistake. Love those two hits from The Wilburys. The two songs/videos of his I can most recently recall watching on YT along with the Johnny Depp song.
Don't Come Around Here No More was one of the last great music videos, in my opinion. That was right about the point where music videos changed from creative novelties to overproduced marketing pieces. Oh, I realize that they were always about marketing, but something really did change right about the time of that video.

Agreed, I remember the majority of videos becoming more theatric by about 84-86ish, but there were standouts like that one, Money For Nothing, Sledgehammer, etc. MTV played Don't Come Around Here No More on a loop when it was new. He was one of many acts around late 70s/early 80s whose videos started developing from the visually stark ones that characterized so much of early MTV videos. Here Comes My Girl was a standard white background with some primary colors splashed about. There were a lot of huge songs with videos that weren't much to watch beyond the artist(s). Roxanne and Can't Stand Losing You were like that, plain red background. Prince, Madonna, Van Halen, Police, Jackson. Big acts even had rather plain videos from late 70s to about 83-6. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
