I think Jimmy can/will play like a max guy over the next year, or two.
He's a risk long-term, and I think most see it that way.
That said, he may be the guy who will sign on in LA for less, for an opportunity to pair up with these guys.
Before we acquired AD, he seemed like the one guy who was truly considering coming here on a max offer.
Maybe he'll come at a bit of a discount, now that we have 2 big guns in place. |

Butler is the only true max player this offseason who hasn’t won a championship ring yet. He is probably the only one who will value winning more than anything. |

Well said. I can see him taking a 2 year, cheaper deal. |

No KL my next choice is Butler. Didn't like how he played in Philly, but I think it was that offense with Embiid and Simmons that messed him up. Same with Tobias Harris. |

Does Jimmy shoot 3s?
Jimmy is not a max guy.
This is hilarious.
Jimmy Butler is one of the premiere wing defenders. Not just on the ball but OFF the ball. He is a leader on the defensive end. He is probably going to get into with Lebron if he keeps taking nights off playing D.
He's also super clutch. He is going to be the one closing games out for us.
Can he shoot the 3? Yes he can. Contested or open it doesn't matter. He is a SOLID 3pt shooter.
He also hits his free throws. This is a guy that spanked KAT and Wiggins with Minnesota's B team in practice and he did it without even scoring the ball. His impact is huge. Philly almost UPSET the Raptors in game 7 because Jimmy B turned up the jets at the end of that game. He is actually the perfect fit for us.
When Jimmy was on Chicago he did everything. HE was a sure fire stud. Since then his roles have been iffy on two weirdly constructed teams. Don't hold that against him. |

I don’t see Jimmy accepting a role as a 3rd option.
He thinks too much of himself to take a backseat to both Lebron and AD. I think we had a better chance to sign him with just Lebron.
If he wins with the Lakers now, he won’t get the accolades he wants. |

I think Butler can play without the ball, although he'd rather attack a closeout than catch and shoot when he's open, which would frustrate LeBron.
His play in the 2015 playoffs would be what we need from him, 6 three attempts a game and the ability to play off of our version of Rose/Pau. As long as there's no Joakim Noah wrecking the spacing, Jimmy/LeBron/AD could work, if there are any ring chasing shooters who'd take the room exception. |

That's the exact opposite of how he acted in Philly.
This is just one example. But several times Brett Brown wanted him to be more aggressive on offense.

Even in Minny. His on the floor gripe wasn't about offensive touches. It was KAT's soft defense. And Wiggins coasting on both sides of the floor. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I prefer Butler over Kyrie because Butler has made every team he's gone to better.
Minnesota would've never made the playoffs without him. They were 3rd in the west when he was healthy. Then he got injured. They dropped out of the playoff race. Then he came back early. Wasn't 100%, and still brought them up the standings to sneak in an 8th seed.
Even Minnesota fans who believe KAT is the 2nd coming of Jesus say. Jimmy was right for complaining about what KAT and Wiggins were doing on the court. He just went about addressing the problem the wrong way. Minnesota screwed up by maxing Wiggins (so they couldn't pay Butler what he wanted/deserved).
Unlike AD. Any team he goes to is a lock to make the playoffs. Even that horrible CHI team that had no spacing with Rondo and Wade. They were up 2-0 against the 1 seed Boston. Stealing both games on the road before Rondo got hurt. Jimmy lead the team in points and +/- over those 1st 2 games.
Boston had Philly's number before Jimmy got there. Philly finally beat Boston the last time they faced them in the regular season (thanks in major part to Jimmy).
The only team that took Toronto to 7 games was PHI. Lead by Jimmy since Simmons was neutralized (no shooting ability) and Embiid was sick and hurt. And if Kawhi's corner shot that hit every part of the rim didn't go in. Philly might have won that game. Jimmy got hurt late in that 4th quarter. And still played through it.
We'd be fortunate to have him. I can see us winning multiple chips with him on the roster. He'd fit Vogel and Hollins defense-first styles like a glove. Just like if we get Kawhi. LBJ could coast on defense with him on the roster. And Jimmy wouldn't step on toes on offense. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I see it more in him than others (Kyrie, Kemba, etc.). He broke into the Bulls rotation as a blue collar/lunch pale guy. Obviously he's a star now, but at least there are traces of it in his DNA. |

He "may" be more willing to play an all-star type passing game given the LBJ & AD's
also all star level. But again, I'm not fixated on a 3rd Star Vs quality pieces; I could go
with either scenario if the pieces are the right ones. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team ! |

I think Jimmy would be a great pick up for us. I'm not an expert, but from what I've read I think he's very vocal and is quick to get on people's asses if they are slacking. I wouldn't mind that at all, maybe he can light a fire under Kuzma. Him and Davis on defense would be something else. |

My money's on Butler being the 3rd piece of the puzzle, which would be awesome IMO. _________________ Not a legend |

I basically agree, but view him as the one "star" exception, unless we believe Kawhi is somehow still in play. |

Great post. You really did a good job of showing the value that Jimmy brings to his teams. I already liked Jimmy a lot but after this post I'll be disappointed if we dont get him. |

For me, Kawhi is just noise.
The real choices are between Jimmy Buckets and Kemba.
I would prefer Butler - especially if we could lure P Bev over
PG - Bev
SG - Butler
SF - Lebron
PF - Kuz
C - AD
Would not miss a minute of that lineup in action. |

Butler signing is a good one. Not the top choice but if Butler comes, I could see a scenario where Collison accepts the RE to be the starting PG which gives us another defensive ace, a guy who shoots 40% from 3 and can create for others a little bit.
I also think Butler is one of those guys who will heavily recruit and I would think he'd be able to talk Taj Gibson (former teammate and close friend) to come on the cheap and compete for a ring.
I'd rather give him a 3 year that lines up with LeBron though... |

It would be great, but if Jimmy wants the max, we can't offer Beverly very much. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

Keep in mind Butler's max will most likely be only for three years. A 4 year contract with an opt out in year 4. He will be 32 going on 33 that offseason. I could see him pulling a Horford trying to get one last long term deal somewhere instead of opting in. |
