'These kids are ticking time bombs': The threat of youth basketball https://es.pn/2XBwnah

A month or so ago I had mentioned in a thread talking about injuries how doctors in military boot camps were finding injuries in 18 and 19 year olds that belong on people in their 40s. Well I know some people wanted to know more and this article by Baxter Holmes goes into detail about how this is effecting basketball (and really all youth today).
We're getting more fragile and the drop in testosterone levels across the past few generations has a lot to do with it. Unfortunately Holmes paints it as only a basketball thing when it clearly is not (though basketball is surely a hard sport on the body, maybe more than all other "non-contact" sports |

Pretty good read. Interesting how people's bodies have changed so dramatically. |

Early specialization does these kids no favors as well. It's better to play different sports in different seasons for as long as possible. And it's better to have the other sports be substantially different in terms of how it stresses the body. In a perfect world, all kids would do nothing but swim and ride bikes all summer long. |
