Looks like the end for a Laker Legend. Looking forward to seeing #16 in the rafters.
While I would love to see this happen what are the chances the Buss family retire his #?
100%.
Definitely. I think it's a closer call as to whether we wait until he is officially in the Hall or jump the gun and retire the jersey soon (while the team is guaranteed to be excellent).
Do you remember how stoked you were, watching this game? My outlook on the season and next 3-4 years went from ho hum to holy crap, this could be a dynasty. The game itself was exhilarating because Pau seemed to find his groove almost immediately, as you've said.
I remember it well, and yes, one game earlier I'm wondering if we make the playoffs, halfway through that first game it sinks in; we're legit title contenders. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Kobe was so happy that game! He started doing the soaring bird thing with his arms outstretched, gliding back and forth down the court. Instant chemistry. Unforgettable.
I remember that when we traded for Pau, LG was down for a few days. But oh yeah, Mitch sucked.
Mitch was an excellent GM…until he wasn’t.
To be fair, Mitch said at the time that "basketball reasons" would set us back 10 years. It'll be 8 years next month . . . _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

All those years of drafting “triangle fits” (Rush, Cook, etc.) rather than players to extend the title window (Prince, Barbosa, etc.), trading draft picks unnecessarily (Grant cost them Arenas, Payton cost them Rondo), terrible trades (Grant, O’Neal, Payton, etc.), media leaks (Boozer, etc.), misusing MLE (George, Divac, Radmanovic, Walton, etc.) — everything was excused for the Pau Gasol deal.

Bring him home. Imagine him teaching AD.
my immediate thoughts... imagine AD with Pau's post moves
AD would wreck everyone with Pau post moves. Have not seen AD using his off hand at all.
Are post games still a thing in the NBA?
I was halfway watching the Dallas game tonight and Porzingis was immune to going inside the arc. 7’3. Unreal. _________________ We pour this booze and we drink this booze because we think it's yummy. YUMMY! So over the tounge and down the throat to party in our tummys.

Forget him.
He left us in FA.
Don't bring him back unless it's for his jersey retirement
Lol! You seem to forget how crappy management and fans treated him in his last 2 seasons with the lakers! Gasoline deserved better!
Exactly, the FO dangled him out for every trade and treated him like crap. He left after being offered more years and more money to stay with the Lakers, as I recall, and still left.
He was a big part of the reason Kobe has 5 rings versus 3. I think the Lakers should have his jersey retired and I believe he is a hall of famed for sure. Hell, if vlade made it...Pau was twice the player that Vlade was
To think he was an Starting All-Star center for the Bulls not too long ago. Gasol deserves to get his Jersey retired, but I’m not sure if he’s still bitter on how things ended here. Glad Dwight was able to leave (bleep) in the past.
Pau was awesome for the us until he quit trying (Shannon Brown with his woman).
Was this ever confirmed? I always wondered what the story was for his perplexing and rather sudden deterioration in form. Can't remember if it was 2011 or 2012 playoffs (edit: it was 2011 vs the Mavs) when he seemed to go straight over a cliff - couldn't make a shot to save his life and seemed like his head was elsewhere.

no it was never confirmed. It’s a fan myth that won’t die.

Kobe and Phil saved Pau's career. He would have been remembered the way Al Jefferson will be otherwise. (Except with an international career.) Best player on a bad team. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

You could turn that around easily and say that Pau saved Kobe's legacy. Without Pau does Kobe get three more trips to the finals or two titles? Unlikely. And he would have had to live with the reputation that he couldn't win without Shaq.
