The Rock is alright.
But Gal Gadot's acting, it's ... rough.
I like ryan. I wish he would get out of his shtick here and there.
The rock is eh .
Gal can not act
Red Notice was difficult to follow. The Rock was the Rock. Reynolds is kinda versatile in an odd way. I liked him in Hit Mans Body Guard. Gal gets by because she's a nice looking woman. 1 to 10 I give Red Notice 6-7. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Man, they try to be witty or cute or funny at every single line, got old quick but Gadot is a fine Gal

this was my big problem. Every line was a "one liner". Even stallone knows to spread them out.
Ryan can act, but using his deadpool delivery and style didn't work.

Bamboozled. Written and Directed by Spike Lee. The movie wasn't well accepted. A $10 million dollar budget grossed $2.5 million.
The message was lost in characterization, the reason for the Black face. IMO the Black face was to educate not belittle. It didn't seem to resonate. 1 to 10 I give message 9. 1 to 10 on the movie I give 7. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

The ending montage makes me tear up every time, and it's one of the prickliest movies Lee has ever made. I'm still not nostalgic for early digital video, but Spike uses it well enough to ugly up the slick Hollywood machine and make minstrelsy both as familiar as a home movie and alien. I agree with you, a better message than overall film, it's still an absolute must watch, imo. _________________ Under New Management
Saw The Master w/ Phx, PS Hoffman, Amy A. A little longwinded, but Joaquin is always interesting. A true chameleon like Gary Oldman and DDL. I then rewatched Her a few days later, hadn't seen it in a few years. Great concept, Phx can do the bone weary Tree's Lounge Buscemi stuff or be a menacing physical presence, but he always retains weirdness a la Crispin Glover, which is admirable. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
Someone is having a bit of cheeky fun with Alfonso Arau's Wikipedia page:

Among a plethora of roles in his career, Arau played "Captain Herrera", a lieutenant of Federal general "Mapache", in Sam Peckinpah's 1969 western The Wild Bunch, chief bandit "El Guapo" in Three Amigos (USA, 1986), a comedy with Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Chevy Chase, shady businessman Manuel in the comedy Used Cars (USA, 1980), and the smuggler "Juan" in Romancing the Stone (USA, 1984) starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.
Anyway, dude was great as El Guapo.
He was IN famous. That means MORE than famous. That was one of a plethora of 80s flicks I saw that at the movies, crowdpleaser. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Could it be, npz, that you are angry at something else and taking it out on me? Could it be because you're turning 40 today? _________________ Under New Management
Someone earlier in this thread aired their disappointment with Belfast, and I understand why.
It's pure form in search of content. A thin Oscar bait premise and plot with an avante garde visual aesthetic that never fully match. I appreciate Branaugh taking a big swing, but he strikes out here even as I admire his artistic ego. It's almost unwatchable as a whole movie, but specific shots and sequences should be taught in film school.
Anyway, it reminded me of The Long Day Closes, a true masterpiece. Rewatching that great movie after Belfast, I was struck again about how most movies these days are fake nonsense that don't function as either art or entertainment, but we settle for it because it's there. _________________ Under New Management

God, what a lovely, ridiculous melodrama in An Officer and a Gent. It really is a camp classic. Can't believe it was treated as straight, po-faced drama back in the day. The Simpsons clearly got how silly and fun it was back in season four.
FYI: El Jefe also directed Like Water for Chocolate, which was briefly a mini-trend in the early '90s, if I remember correctly. Also not a bad flick. A versatile talent, Mr. Arau. _________________ Under New Management
Judgment Night: one of the best dumb fun movies about white yuppie fear over the inner city. Even beyond its iconic rap rock soundtrack, I'm reminded of how charismatic Dennis Miller was as a movie star back when he cared. This performance and also him in The Ref (a great Christmas movie) is a pleasant/painful reminder of what he could've been as a full-time screen presence.
Rather than rip off better stand-ups, he could've been one of the great, charismatic character villains of the '90s and '00s. A true loss. _________________ Under New Management

He did a spot on impersonation of Dennis Leary in Judgment Night. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
Lovecraft, whose fiction was flavored by quack-scientific racialism and who died in penury with a bellyful of potted meat, is a crucial artist, and dear, sweet, perfectly progressive Guillermo del Toro, who has repeatedly announced his intention to film Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness and will expire well-fed, filthy rich, and surrounded by memorabilia, is no kind of an artist at all.
Rewatched The Place Beyond The Pines, been a couple yrs. One of the most 50/50 movies of recent memory, Full Metal Jacket ain't even close. Gosling top notch, very less is more. Uses straight-faced, nonverbal pauses and looks/stares to good effect. Seems to be one of his sensibilities, also evident in La La Land. Doesn't try to effect a brooding quality with those kind of roles, which would possibly be the inclination of an over-actor. His bank robbing partner was an excellent cast, looked and sounded pure white trash.

(bleep) me. I double booked a showing of Drive My Car and Licorice Pizza this Saturday. Thankfully Drive My Car is still playing Sunday.

What is a 50/50 movie and how does that tie into Full Metal Jacket? Do you mean like: the first half of the movie is 'movie one' and the second half of the movie is 'movie two'?

I just mean half great and half meh. I like the 2nd half of FMJ, but it's kind of a posterchild to many for a movie that deflates after the prostitute scene. Not me, but I've read such comments at imdb/YT/etc over the yrs. Ermey was hard act to follow, admittedly. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
