That's what really ticked me off. All those cops and security guards and they didn't do jack ****. The worse part for me was trying to exit the parking lot after the event. They didn't have one cop guiding traffic. I've must have been stuck in the parking lot for like 20 min. |
There was no organization at the gate. It was chaos at gate 1

The gates were a joke.
No lines, just huge mobs of people funneling into the gates. Eventually they just started hopping the fences. |

I'm not trying to be an ass, but to the people complaining about the traffic, didn't you realize before going that parking was going to be a B? I mean if you just go through the first 10 pages of this thread, you could see how confusing it was for people even the night before the event.
I made sure to find someone who could drop me off and then got someone else to pick me up. But even if I couldn't get a ride, I would've drove there knowing what a pain it would be. And I put on sunblock and used my laker flag for shade. Done. Complaining about traffic and the hot sun when you live in cali is just lulz.
I'll write more about my experience later. |

I think most of the people with any complaints (self included) was that there were tons of event staff workers and police standing around and doing absolutely nothing. Of course I expected traffic but it could have been less of a hassle leaving had they had people directing it. Did I expect a pain in the ass parking situation? Yes, but not to the point where it took me 45 minutes to get around the Coliseum since most of the gates were closed to general traffic (I ended up parking at a gas station and being gouged out of desperation). I also expected long lines, but what I didn't think was cool was standing in line for 2 and a half hours, only to end up with a huge mob of people (most of whom just walked up 5 minutes prior without standing in any line). Totally ridiculous. At the end of the day, it was a great experience to be with 90 thousand Lakers brethren and I did have an amazing time. To me, it is something that every Lakers fan should experience once, but I don't think I'd do it again next year... maybe just the parade next time. _________________ Rest In Paradise Kobe & GiGi |

The traffic was a given. I knew about that way before hand. What I didn't know about was that the organization at the Coliseum was going to be so horrible. And the parking, when you pay $20 to park at the Coliseum, you expect help trying to get out. Put everything together, minus being with 95,000 Laker fans and when the Lakers arrived, it was huge pain in the ass for me. It was a great experience for my first time and I don't regret going but that'll do it for me for anymore championship rallies down the road. Like k4lakers, maybe next time I'll be there across Staples to watch the parade go by.

Thats why I didn't go to the parade. I went in 2002 and said I'd never do it again. Although having a seat at the colesium beats standing 5 hours in staples parking lot jammed with people around you in the scorching sun. _________________ LAKERS ARE THE NBA CHAMPIONS |

like i said earlier, i expected traffic, parking difficulty and crowds (to include pushing and shoving)...i had my personal space alarms turned off so that wasnt a problem...i was glad to get a decent seat inside and was glad a restroom was nearby...i went in 2000 and had to stand the entire time with no restrooms around, matter of fact didnt know how i did it w/o pissing myself...or did i....anyway, this was better for me, i probably wont do it again but it wont be because of the colisuem or crowds...just better and more convient on the tv _________________ RIP.....Pop (AJ Sr.) 7/09/23-01/20/09

Yeah, they mentioned it on KCAL 9 as well. They're having a party @ Nokia Theater. There's a thread on it. _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

If they're going to have the parade at the Coli again, they should just charge for it. The city could use the break in funds, the riff raff will be "weeded out" in an appropriate way, there would be assigned seating so as to prevent trampling, people sitting in aisles, fire hazards, there wouldn't be madness when it comes to parking etc.
I think the lack of organization, the crowd, and the brevity of the event took away any of the positives. |

what ticked me off even more were the people who cut to the front or forced their way in and got seats before those of us who had been standing in "line" for 4 hours. i really think they should charge just a small admission fee next time so that the crowds could be kept under control a bit. _________________ We only celebrate championships.

They probably will learn from the madness and charge a small fee and the proceeds will go to the Lakers Youth Foundation or some other charity. That still won't get rid of all the riff raff. Remember that they use to show the away playoff games at Staples Center and then that got taken away from us because of a few idiots. They would charge $15.00. At least by charging there would be assigned seating. |

yeah, i think a small fee would help, even if it's $10. and maybe kids get in free? even though, thankfully, nothing tragic happened, you could see how things *could* get out of hand very quickly. |

I sadly witnessed a young early 20-something yr old mother have the pipe passed to her from her friend/relative sitting at her right. While she had her 3-4 yr old son sitting on her lap, she hit the pipe nonchalantly. There also was a couple of 7-10 yr old girls sitting directly in back of her and in front of me. She then passed it to her left which I can definitely i.d. this guy as the father cause he took turns holding the child.
I was sitting at the top of section 25.

I don't know if this was the same woman/family, I have no idea what section I was in, but I saw something similar. There was this young lady and she had a baby in her arms. Then one fan had a few extra of those "One more cookie posters" and started handing them out. She ran DOWN THE STAIRS baby in the arms bouncing around. I was hoping she didn't trip because if she did, the baby would have been hurt very badly. She and her husband or boyfriend or baby's daddy had another child, 3-4 also with them.
This mother/couple were the epitome of bad parenting. A 3-4 year old and a baby couldn't care less about the LA Lakers. These parents wanted to go for themselves. I have no problem with that, but hire a babysitter or have the kids stay with relatives, if that's not an option, then tough luck, stay at home. |

I have an 8 yr old daughter who would have been thrilled to witness the Lakers coming down those steps, but I chose wisely to not take her.
The stampede on the way in, all the hours of waiting, the sheer madness of 100,000 people, the line to the concessions that were more gridlocked than the surface streets, hardly being able to walk through the crowd to get to a bathroom and all the other nonsense.....
NO WAY, that was no place for small children what so ever! |
