Would honestly like to prioritize hiring staff to help with our schemes before a guy who might light a fire under an ass or teach AD something that can be learned over a weekend.
Lol I don't know if he is gonna step down from head coaching to assistant coaching, unless he is setting himself up to take over.
How many head coaching opportunities are there for him?
None right now, but some thing will open up. Someone mentioned him being an assistant to Pop, I could see that. I guess to your point, assistant coach til the time being.
If he and Ham can light a fire under Davis, I am ok with the hire.
Why does anyone need to light a fire under a former NBA champion sharing the court with Lebron James?
That is the $35 mil question
Exactly.
There are current players like Curry/Luka/Embiid/Greek Freak/KD who are totally focused on winning numerous RINGS and doing anything/everything humanly possible to personally make it happen. The others are grateful to even be in the league, get some glory, make $$$$$$ and be satisfied/content because they "tried their best."
We will find out what AD is made of in a few months
I don't get this wholesale adulation of other players and bashing of AD.
How many rings has Embiid won? How many finals has he led his team to? Is this the same Embiid that has averaged 50 games per season over his career compared to AD's 60? One party video proves AD isn't focused?
And are we talking of the same KD who has played 90 games these past 3 seasons (compared to AD's 138), whose 3-star team flamed out these playoffs just like the Lakers? The same KD who's known for online tweet storms from burner accounts? How is he demonstrating that he "wants it more" than AD?
Quinton Crawford from my understanding is primarily breaking down tape and editing videos/scouting tape.
Seems like he only held onto Handy for player development. I do share the excitement that we retained him. _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

Handy was quoted earlier this offseason as saying that he was ready to be a head coach. If he advocated for himself to the Lakers well enough, then I would actually assume that he was promised greater responsibility instead of just being shoved back into a "development" box.

Ham was talking about how he's a 360 degree coach and the coaching staff in Milwuakee all followed that structure. So I do believe you're right, that Phil will have greater responsibility beyond player development. _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

Haha…it would be on brand tho. They love keeping it in the family…that’s all I’m saying. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

So its like Luke hiring his buds as coaching staff all over again?
I swear to god some people are just never happy no matter what
- Coach doesnt get to pick his assistants OUTRAGE
- Coach picks his assistants WTF HIS HE DOING!
Exactly. Reality has it, people don't even pay that much attention to the coaching staff, unless someone in the coaching staff is about to get a head coaching job.
I haven't seen anything since Charania backtracked and Ham said that he was just a candidate.
really hoping it stays that way. haven't listened to the pod yet but McCranjis hinted in a tweet that he heard some really bad intel on him.
Come on man, Cranjis is more of a guy who is a expert on the potential of NBA players, what is he gonna know about what Sheed is as a assistant coach? The dude has had plenty of opportunity to be around some amazing coaches through out his time in the NBA, and is gonna help us with the toughness approach, Cranjis is just trying to attach drama into the potential hire.

Would definitely be on brand.

Also noteworthy, the Lakers don't own the Sparks anymore. So the decision to fire Fish didn't come from their org.

New Lakers coach Darvin Ham started to shape his coaching staff by informing assistants David Fizdale, Mike Penberty and John Lucas III on Tuesday that they will not be retained, sources told ESPN.
Ham will assimilate assistant coaches Phil Handy and Quinton Crawford as holdovers from coach Frank Vogel's staff, sources told ESPN.
