Howard Beck: Quote: | By the way, I'm told Baron signed for the vet's minimum ($1.4 mil), not the room exception ($2.5 mil). So Knicks still in chase for Posey |

Maybe Baron wanted to play with a younger team (Melo, Amare, Chandler), and has a better chance of starting on the NYK?
Or, perhaps Baron couldn't stomach the immense pressure of playing on the marquee team in his hometown, especially after the Clippers fiasco. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Maybe the Lakers didn't want to take a chance on a guy with crap shot selection who always comes into camp fat and out of shape and whose body is now breaking down? No, that would be too logical. |

lol there's nothing else to do really but be amused by it. Ever since Fish became our fulltime starting point guard in 2001, we haven't been able to replace him with a better point guard, not because he is so good or one of the best out there...but...because...um, I dunno |
And it isn't like we needed to replace him, the results since 2001 have been pretty amazing. |
You do have a point, but, mgmt begs to differ when they tried to replace him in 04 with Gary Payton. And allowed him to walk a year later. And now we were/are trying to replace him again (Chris Paul?). For some weird reason its just been really difficult |
I agree, the FO has tried bringing in PG help, but it doesn't seem to work out. At this point I think we will have to hope that Morris works out in the next few years. Maybe Cole will work out for the Heat and make Chalmers available for part of LO's TPE. If anything happens I think it will be a situation like that. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Maybe Carmelo attracts free agents the way Wade and Lebron do. You would think guys would want to play with Kobe for the Lakers, but he just doesn't seem to draw big names through free agency. I guess Ron Artest, but that's about it. |

No one can really fault the front office for not trying to upgrade at the PG spot since we had a deal for Paul. I'm not too persuaded that baron will be that good with the Knicks anyway. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Knicks gonna give it to the HEat. Chandler alone is a huge improvement. |

WOW!
As I said before, Mitch might be a wonderful analyst, but his sales skills seem poor. The Lakers are the premier franchise in one of the most desirable locations and can all but promise a starting job to Baron Davis and Delonte West, and yet loses out on both of them.
That front office just lacks a sales gene. |

No-brainer. BD is playing with a loaded frontline, a more traditional SG, in an uptempo PG-oriented offense. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Things are beginning to look like that. Thus far the FO is getting out-played by other FO's. We lose our best 6th Man, backup PF, only to replace him with two guys who aren't as good and STILL don't take care of our needs at PG? |

I'm telling you that Baron has a grudge against Mitch stemming from when he was traded from the Hornets to the Warriors. He thought he was coming here. Baron how come you are not a Laker right now? "I don't know. ask Mitch Kupchak" |

You keep saying this, but the idea doesn't sound any less ludicrous with each re-post.
I actually don't doubt your memory of the quote, but have you stopped to think that there's a much more reasonable, realistic reason for that quote? For example ... Baron pushed his agent to get him on to the Lakers, but Mitch and crew were unable to accommodate for one reason or another (like, e.g., his current team didn't want to trade him to LA). So, when the media said "hey, we know you want to be on the Lakers, how come you're not?" he basically replied "I did all I could do, but Mitch couldn't make it happen. you have to ask him what happened."
Personally, it wouldn't surprise me if Baron is trying to live out both his dreams. Play for NYK this year, play for the Lakers next year. He's getting paid lots of $$ both seasons anyway. |
